72 240 Crank Position Sensor/ Tach

I'm working on getting my 1972 240 road worthy, it was given by a friend who inherited from a family member that passed. Its got 36k and is surprisingly clean.

I finally got it running but when it starts up the Tach is maxed out the whole time (though actual engine speed is normal) Does the dash tach get it's RPM signal from a magnetic CKP like modern cars??? if so where is it so I can test, I have the feeling its with the distributer but can't decide which wires they are. Any help appreciated

The 240Z is pure carbs...

The tach receives it's signal from the - side of the coil.

sounds like a bad tach. Common even in a low mileage survivor like yours.
