5speed fill plug
 

I have a 5 speed transmission I am swapping into a 73 240 the problem is I cant get the fill plug out. I soaked it with penetrating oil tapped it with a hammer heated the case up with a torch wont budge. Now I have managed to chew the square fitting on the plug.

the plug wouldnt be reverse threaded, would it?

Sorry, can't help you with the five-speed. Both my four speeds are normally threaded.

Machine shop time???

They are all right hand threads. Use the torch. Aim it at the plug inself about 4 inches away from it. This may take a fifteen minutes because the aluminum will suck the heat away. It will eventually separate the threads because the aluminum expands a lot more then the steel. Try to loosen it while it's still hot.
If you heat just the case it can expand toward the plug making it even tighter.

Ok I will give that a try, I was going to cart it off to the machine shop tomorrow.

I had this happen once to me... AFTER I had already re-installed the transmission from a clutch job and went to refill. :( Dropped the trans again, uber-welded a 17mm nut on the end, and backed it out with a breaker bar and 4ft fence post pole.

That sounds like a good idea! Not sure why I did not think of that. I took it to a machine shop this morning and they were going to "see what they could do" but they said they were busy and couldn't promise anything. I would have thought I would have gotten a better response especially since they have gotten about $2000 out of me over the past year...

Yeah! Success! I welded a big nut onto the end of the plug and put a 6 pt socket on and got out the jumbo breaker bar, bam! Done!
