What motor to swap into a 280z
im planning on starting a 280z project but dont know what quite what to do in terms of motor. im looking between a 1975 280z and a 1978 280z. ive read alot of forums on people hyping up their original Z motors but not getting to far in terms of horsepower. im open to doing swaps but i want to keep it naturally aspirated and a non-V8. thanks! -marco

Please be more specific. :023:
Are you doing this swap yourself? How much $$$ do you have to spend? What will the car be used for? (street, track, auto-x?) HP goal? (150hp? 231490723hp?) |
i plan on doing the swap myself i just dont know much about the motors that are swappable into 280z's. I have about 3-4g's to spend. i plan on using it on the street and taking it occasionally to the track. im hoping for 250+

250+HP, my bad

Well the easiest and cheapest choice is to swap in an L28ET. A few quick mods and you're at 250hp.
Other than that, take your pick of engines... most all other swaps will require quite a bit of fabrication, fitting, drivetrain, and electrical work (engineering). Feel free to search... "S30 motor swaps" has been discussed to death. :D |
great, thank you very much!
