wheel frustration
 

I guess I will try to ask this in another way and maybe somebody has been there/done this.... After I have done a ton of research, I somehow run into roadblocks on every option... so here goes... Can I go to my local U Pull It parts recycler, and find a make of car that has rims on it that I can remove that will fit on my 1971 240Z? I just want to get a basic set of rims that I can put some decent tires on, and drive it.... Your help is appreciated....

As far as I know, no. Only 69-83 240, 260, 280, 280ZX wheels will fit.

With some adapters you can run Honda wheels tho.

The 240Z through 280ZX has a 4x114.3 lug pattern, zero offset. Various other Nissans have 4x114.3 lugs, but positive offset (200sx, 240sx, Sentras, Z31's). Positive offset 4x114.3 wheels will tuck farther in (not what you want).

Like Blue said, main options... get a set of 280zx aluminum wheels (15" turbo swastikas look dope on an S30 IMO) or run wheel adapters. Aside from that, you are pretty much limited to aftermarket.

Typically you're looking for 4x114.3 with zero offset. I think MkII Supras had that. Most front-wheel drive cars have too much offset to be used.

Thanks for the replies and exactly what I wanted to hear and didn't want to hear... the answers were exact and what I needed to know... I just wish I had heard something like "I put some 1991 Honda rims on mine" but apparently that is not going to happen. The other roadblocks I ran into were aftermarket rims that honestly, I could pay more for than I paid for the car. The previous owner supplied me with mag wheels for it.. no centers... and brand new tires (stickers were still on them).... I ordered push through centers and the first one fit perfectly.... the second, third, and fourth didn't!!! Why? different mag rims... they "look alike" but weren't.... I accepted that.... then after finishing the car on jack stands, installed the wheels, and the fronts were 215 60 14s and the back were 225 70 14s.... and too close to the fender wells and yes, I almost got to start some body work over again because of that. I checked... mags are all 8 inches and the same dimensions... so... now, try to find an affordable couple of 14 inch wheels.... the tire websites just kind of ignore you when you ask for anything with 14 tires. I found out that the back tires (BFG) sell for around $120 each.... and I would like to find a place to trade them or sell them outright on CL or something... I am still in that process... I am even looking for a couple of used 14s just to get the car on the road. My next intervention will be moving the 215s to the rear of the car to make sure THEY have enough clearance and they should.... I would then like to buy the smallest tire I can put on an 8 inch wide mag without looking ridiculous, and internet research tells me that is a 205..... Anybody with any other ideas? I would welcome them... and yes, there is a strict budget on this... isn't there always? Thanks again for the help.. at least I know that I cannot wander into an auto recycler and wander out with some used rims... PS... found several 14s on Craigs, but as always, it seems the tires you need are 250 miles away.... maybe I live in the wrong part of the state?

they have a pair of wheels on datsun parts and needs on fb for 375 in texas. American racing mags wtih daytona tires. Not a bad price all depends where you are at. Can also look at older 4 lug mustang wheels.

I have a set of mag wheels and lugsI from a 78z for sale 200 plus shipping from 68510 excellent condition.

Hi... update and a request for more help.... I found some rims with some old tires on them and got them home and three had "rally tires" on them.... and one had a decent Michelin tire on it...the rims were in tough shape and I do like to restore rims so that is not an issue.... However, I tried one of them on the car and I did not think I would like "gold snowflake" rims on a red 240 but it looked super so I am going to restore them back to the original gold.... However, when I installed the wheel on the car, I could not use my mag one inch shank lug nuts (too long) and I used some of my quarter inch shank 12mm 1.25 lug nuts and they worked, kind of... I know the shanks will have to be half inch in length... when I slapped in my one inch shank lug nut (Gorilla brand) they didn't seem "thick" enough which lead me to believe that ordering 12mm 1.25 half inch shank lug nuts from Amazon, may not be the answer..... is there a thicker stock lug nut for these rims? To answer that, I have to identify the rims... and here is what is embossed on the rims.... the word NISSAN... 40300.... FZ4...... P9000..... 6 JJ x 1510.... and all these codes mean absolutely nothing to me.... I did contact Nissan locally on their internet form asking for help about lug nuts for it... but thought maybe this information would ring a bell with someone on the forum... thanks.... PS... the rally tires have such hard side walls, that a conventional tire machine would not begin to remove them.. I took them to the farm tire store and they have a different kind of machine... after I had them removed, I asked the two young workers how much I owed... they said "nothing, piece of cake" and then they loaded them in my vehicle... I handed them a $20 which got a big smile... my next option was to cut them off and I have heard that ranges from a PITA to a nightmare visit to the emergency room... it made my day.... thanks again...
