Recent Spammers

Mods... how can we block these stupid spammers without making it more difficult for new members to sign up? Usually email / admin activations work best, but that seems like a hassle. Maybe they have a common IP address?

if i were mod this wouldnt happen.... lol. yeah just do like hybridz and have them type in a code on registration and reply to e-mail confirmation

you know like the code that says type the letters you see in this box and the letters are all jumbled and broken so they are even hard for humans to read. lol.

snw actually makes sense just a little filter wouldn't hurt. for example would you not join a forum because it asks you to type in 7-10 random numbers and/or letters? i think not so i guess:
snw:1
nismo:0
bleach:0

Speaking of spammers....

PS... for you n00b's it's called "CAPTCHA IMAGE VERIFICATION" which may cut down on spammers and may not... since humans can enter what they see... and most spammers are... HUMAN.

Hahah, whatever dude...

New ideas: 0

Power to change the forum login procedure: Silverhand & Godzilla
Power to ban people over and over and do nothing else: Bleach & every other Admin/Moderator

Also, Zdriver DOES have an email confirmation sent out. So these spammers do have legit gmail accounts.

Maybe make a spam section so these ***** post in there or so at least the first post of a noob goes there for review as spam...then just print out all the spam and snail mail it to Snw's place...with a bra and panties...he likes that stuff.

I've contacted Silvrhand several times about it and got a message from him last week saying he'd work on it... apparently not yet so I PM'd GodZilla on My350z. Though I doubt that will work either because I've heard "through the Z vine" that my350z.com was sold to someone else.

ORLY

I didn't hear ne beach noise in the background.
I'll mention this to him next time we speak

Now for the spam issues the site has been having.........

I've done some (alot really) work in the backend and appears the spam has stopped for awhile atleast. This site seemed to be a spam magnet but hopefully it will be a thing of the past and all can enjoy the site again. We haven't received these kind of attacks on three other sites I admin but what is in place now should slow it all down considerably. Spam won't ever be eliminated but we can try our best to reduce it. The last two months or so there has been a new wave and process of the attackers coming from outside the country.

With that said, part of keeping spam off the forum is up to the community here too. You all are the eyes for the mod/admins as you are in all the sub forums. If you come across a thread or post of any nature that you feel should not be allowed please report it. It is a very simple process for you. At the bottom left of every post there is a red triangle icon. Please click that icon and report the post you feel should not be on the site. When you do this an email is sent to all mods/admins to bring it to their attention. By doing this it will help keep the spammers off the site.

TIA for all your help with this.
