eh, im never satisfied with just a decent sound (aka bose stock)... I put in a sony xplode head unit, 4 pioneer 3 ways, 2 kicker subs, and a kicker amp... giving me enough power to set off all the car alarms within a 2 block radius if I felt like it (and yes, I have tried it ), and for gps/multimedia I use an HP laptop mounted above the center console with about 40 gigs of mp3's and a ps2 mounted on the passenger side under the dash.

Although I am big on quality sound that doesnt come cheap, and at one time I had quite a bit of hardware in my Z, it was all stolen. And now all I have is a MP3 deck and 2 6x9's. The 280ZX is just too easy to break in to and I wont invest anymore money into something that I cant keep safe. Drives me nuts.

Stock customized stock stereo with blue lighting and display. with a speaker box in hatch, with 2 10" subwoofers, 2 3 1/2 midrange, and 2 tweeter. And it has blue neon lights on the 10's. Under the dash in the stock mounts, I have 2 4" 100w a piece Pioneers, and plan on getting 2 more 4" in the stock places behind the seats. I also have a discman in my glovebox, with a cassette adaptor in the stock tape player. And I also want to get a Amp sometime in the near future. Those stock radios, can kick some major *** even though they are old technology!

before i did my whole car up.. i use to have a serious system in my car.. i must of spent close to $3000 on that system.. not only could you hear me coming down the street but you could feel me too... then my Z got broken into and that was the end of that system... but the current one ive got now ive prlly put in abut $1600 into it..

yeah, mine got broken into also, but they only stole the computer and gps hardware and left the rest of my then nearly brand new 2000$ speaker/amp setup... now I take the computer with me when I leave the car for more then a day... and still months later I am waiting on the insurance check!

I've kept my setup pretty simple so far. I have a Kenwood head unit, 2 Polk Audio 6.5's behind the seats and an amp driving 2 Polk Audio 10's in a box in the hatch area. Going to swap to a new MP3 head unit and add XM in a couple of weeks. Thinking of doing a custom mount for a pair of 6.5's in the doors also.

Build an angled enclosure for the kick panels instead:

The only problem with putting them way down in the footwells like that is that the sound is going to be muffled by what ever else is down there, and it has to travel up out of the footwells to be heard. I'm just not entirely hip on having them that far forward in the wells. I hear you though on the whole door panels being hard to come by thing. My buddy who is an install manager for Circuit City say's he can build me a nice enclosure that will fab onto the door panel without too much fuss. I hate to bastardize the panels, but if it looks good and sounds good... I can live with myself.

I saw this thread and got excited wondering what people had in there Z's but noone posted waht they had
Im in the 1k-2k bracket
currently im runnning
HU: alpine cda-7894
Comps: Rainbow Soundlines slc 265.02
Sub Amp: JBL 1200.1
Sub: SI Mag D2 (w7 killer) Destroyed many w7 setups. And i got the sub for 200 bux. No better fealing than doing more with less money.
Next setup is going to be a bit more expensive tho
Alpine h701 combo (deck and processor 700 bux or less hopefully)
Pair of mini HLCDS (horn loaded comprestion drivers) i plan on going used proly gonna cost me 350-450 or so.
Some stout 8" midranges prolly gonna be 250 for the pair.
toss my soundlines as real fill
I think im going to go with a 15" Magnum D2 because there jus impressive in every aspect.
As for amps id like to go all PG Tantrum series but i doubt its gonna happen, since, there becomeing quite rare.
As you can see im a straight up audio fanatic, so yeah you need ideas or hookups for good stuff for cheap lemme know. I can point you to many a speakers that will destroy mb quarts, some focal, and jl audio's comps. And subs people tend to say the jl audio w7 is the best sub out. I can point you to a sub that cost 250 brand new that will beat the w7 in sq and spl.

hmm, does that count trades and other things? cause i got most of my system for cheap. like i spent 100 bucks on the subs and amp, the speakers i got all free, also the headunit for a trade of a jvc headunit. But it would of cost more then 500, so does that count? oh and i made the box, and can sell that for like 220 so around 1000. but less then 200. Good trade what u think

in my slicky na, i have an aftermarket stereo that will go into my boat. in the two turbos, i will have the current/stock system rebuilt so i will be able to keep them original, stock and still have sounds. in the z31 is the system bose, also?----i do not know about youz guyz, but in 50+ years of life and music, i find the bose units superior to most of the systems i have heard. all i need is new speakers in the doors--z31s have that already--because some one prior to me hadta hear their music 2 counties away from their car and blew them. so i get to purchase 6 new speakers. spensive.
