Damn freaking metro!!!

I've been in denial for the last month about my Geo Metro having a blown head gasket. One day it got really hot on the freeway (100+ outside, a/c full blast). I pulled over well before it maxed out & let it cool down. It had puked out coolant from the over flow so I added some water & limped home. Since then, every time I drive it on the freeway, it will puke all it's coolant out the overflow. I did a compression test, all 3 are fine. Spark plugs look fine. Flushed radiator, flows fine, fins fine. No white exhaust smoke, no chugging, just bubbles in the coolant. I have even flushed the cooling system & changed the coolant twice. With new coolant it's much more stable, but as soon as the thermostat opens, the coolant bubbles in the radiator & finally boils over. All I can think of is that there's a pinhole in the head gasket which is pushing compressed air from a cylinder into a coolant passage.

On the bright side, while I'll be wrenching away on it in the garage, I will be jamming to internet tunes on my new garage computer. I just need to build a wifi antenna....

^^^ hammered on Coke? Buahhahahaha!!!

Yeah, the Geo is only for work commuting (~60mi/day). At 50mpg, and gas at $2.50+ I don't want to lose it.

Have you tried replacing the radiator cap? Our jimmy would constantly just boil over the coolant whenever we drove it on a hot day... but it wouldn't over heat. We replaced the coolant cap and walla! I guess it wasn't holding the pressure which helps raise the boiling temperature.

Yeah, forgot to mention that. That was the first thing I suspected. Replaced w/ a 15lb heavy duty cap & it still does it.

Low oil maybe? That seems to be a common culprit for overheating with these miracles of engineering. Why not see what the pros think . . .

That is retarded. Plain and simple. I would have called the cops on you if I saw you doing that crap near my neighborhood.

The super crappy thing is the head bolts are "stretch bolts" and must be replaced after the first use. I actually planned on reusing them anyway, but after reading the procedure on teamswift.net, it's just better to do it right. I ordered a complete gasket & head bolt kit online for $34 (just the freaking headgasket at Napa is $29) and it should be here by the weekend.

3cyl FTW!
