Wiring order on injector and coil packs?
Apologies up front, first post here. I searched for a long time using every term I could think of, and no luck.
My son was experiencing some noise from the top-end of his '93 300ZX (NA), and ripped the intake manifold off before I could make sure he was labeling everything. He labeled nothing...
The net effect is I have no idea the order to connect either the coil packs, nor the injector harness connectors. They seem to have the same color wiring, and are not labeled in any way.
I bought a 300ZX factory service manual CD on Ebay, and unfortunately it's over 1000 pages, and not searchable, so I haven't been able to find anything. It has a diagram, but it's cryptic at best. I tried installing them per the diagram, but that's just not sufficient. Needless to say, it's running rough as hell now.
Is there a way, simple or not, to determine the order for both these harnesses? What a pain, guess he's learned a lesson here...
thanks,
ZBoomer

Hmmm....tough one. Unfortunately, the wiring diagram really won't be much help since the wires don't have any distinct markings. For the injectors and coil packs, your best bet will be to just lay the harness over the plenum. Nissan did an excellent job designing these so that it fits just right. For the most part, each connector finds it's own home. I wish I had a better suggestion.

you could always pin out the wires... looking at the diagrams trace the wires back until you get to a place where they are labled as which ones they are suppose to be connected to, then ohm it out and see which one at the end is connected to the wire that is labled as going to which place... (wow I even managed to confuse myself.... hope you can make some sense of that)

... most of them aren't difficult to figure out where they go based on their lengths. If you lay the harness where it's supposed to go (down the center of the plenum), you only have to worry about having 2 options for each pack... guess a few times if it comes down to it.
But the 1 and 2 coil and injector wires are the only ones long enough to reach the 1 and 2 cylinders, the 5 and 6 coil and injector wires are super short and won't reach any cylinders other than 5 and 6, and the 3 and 4 wires are medium length and will reach the middle cylinders with no slack.
In fact, if the harness is laid down the right way, I want to say that the connectors might even come out of the harness in the proper direction, so that might help you get started.
