Question about transmission flush..

I was going to take my car to get the transmission flush done tomorrow, my options were regular or synthetic, I'm going with synthetic now my questions is, do our Z's take any specific type of transmission fluid? Also, how many quarts of transmission fluid will my car need? I heard around 12 quarts, but the guy at the shop said possibly 19? My car so far has 92k miles and I dont think the original owner ever changed the transmission fluid hence why I want to get this done tomorrow. I also need to flush the coolant but, I might do that next month.

Yeah mines an automatic. Yeah I thought I heard 4 quarts, but when i told this to the guy that was going to do the flush he said that sine we're completely draining everything, doing the flush, etc, that it would need about 12-19...just thought I'd ask here since you guys probably know the answer.

i don't know how much the auto takes, but i do know that you can't trust every average mechanic. they're pretty afraid to say that they don't know because it would loose them business.

Yeah thats the one thing I'm afraid of. I'm hearing different things though. Some people say its best to flush the tranny other say that it could make things worse.

KasbeKZ, stop while you're not ridiculously far behind. And read my signature while you're at it.

Look in your owners manual - it has a fluid capacity chart. I don't deal with automatic transmissions so I don't know off the top of my head and I'm not motivated to look it up right now (that doesn't mean you couldn't go to tt.net or google and search).

And search my posts about trans fluid changes... I've commented on the beliefs about them being bad for the transmission recently. If the trans is shifting fine, don't change the fluid. If it's having problems, change the fluid. (Motto: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.)

I know for a fact that the automatic transmissions take 7 and 3/8 quarts.

The only reason it would be bad to flush a auto transmission is if it has as many miles on it as yours since it has never been changed the dirty fluid is probaby the only thing keeping it working if the fluid is black don't change it untill you have money to overhall it

^ Yes, but this thread is over a year old (and I've said that in other threads, which I told people to search for).
