Harness Wiring

Harness Wiring
I was lookin around at different harness kits and such... cause mine are in really bad shape... and I got to thinking... why pay so much when I can rebuild all the harnesses myself? sure it'l be more work then buying harnesses and installing them... but a huge roll of wire and a bunch of quick connect connectors (If I even decide to change the connectors... most are in good shape only a few really NEED changing), would be hella cheap... so I was wondering what gauge wire I should use for this (Obviously am gonna use multistranded twisted 100% copper) I was thinking probably 20-22? but I cant seem to find what gauge the wires are and dont feel like taking a crimper to my harness until im actually gonna start rebuilding them...

It's definitely possible. If you're going to toss the oem connectors and run individual connectors to individual pins, you'll need alot of heat shrink sleeving. It might look kind of cheesy. I'm in the process of making my own harnesses right now. Only there aren't any replacement harnesses for the project I'm working on.
You should use the same gage wire that you're replacing. Going too big might affect the voltage that the ecu sees.

Well, so far i've managed to find some good connector and wiring sources,
http://www.route66supply.com/store/page2.html
here is one place i've found for connectors over 6 pin
http://www.sherco-auto.com/cg.htm
http://www.svs.net/tonyneu/wthrpack.html
or for 6 and under
http://order.waytekwire.com/CGI-BIN/...A0C021+M37+ENG
http://www.wiringproducts.com/?target=dept_40.html
high temp automotive wiring, along with misc stuff such as heatshrink etc.
http://cableorganizer.com/convoshield/
and this caught my eye to make everything look good.
so, I guess tomorrow i'll go out and start taking measurments and writing down colors/pin numbers and get to crackin on making replacement harnesses... and I'll end up with enough material for extras considering the minimum wire spools i'll be buying well I guess it wont hurt to have an extra harness layin around so I dont gotta worry about the $300-$600 dealer harness kits

Well, I was planning on eventually redoing all the wiring in my entire car... I figure on parts it will be around 250-300 it will just take me awhile, for just what they are selling for 350 I can make in like a day for less then 50$ of material
