Z32 Emissions Test

Z32 Emissions Test
Passed an emissions test yesterday after failing twice; spent less than $100.00 on filters, O-Rings to make it happen....FSM was the primary tool, have details if interested.

Yes...start at the air intakes and work into the (non-turbo in this case) engine; replace air filters (mine were clogged), clean MAF sensor with a CDC product or equivalent, refer to FSM and run the ECU Mode 2 diagnostics test on the exhaust gas sensors BEFORE REPLACING THEM!!.if you do not get a malfunction code, leave them alone..they are not a PRIME CAUSE of the problem...(maybe later on they will be)...replace the fuel filter(mine was at 27,000 miles and also clogged), disconnect and clean (with CDC product or equivalent) exhaust gas sensor connectors, test them for for battery voltage and internal continuity (see FSM), remove and check spark plugs, mine are platinum tipped supposedly 100,000 mile plugs from Nissan;@40,000 miles appear quite good, they should be free of oil, etc. or the engine has internal problems, if the air balancer tube {you have to remove this to get to #'s five and six spark plugs (see FSM)} O-Rings do not extrude above the machined surfaces replace the three (two large, one small), otherwise unmetered air is entering the intakes...(about $30.00 from the stealer Niss dealership)...change the oil /filter (regardless of mileage, unless VERY recent)....get an emissions test...the numbers will give you much info as to what needs to be done next (again see FSM); even though my car passed, the emissions are still too high...have all the service records since the car was new...am the second owner....Regards and Thanks
And, am now getting 23 mpg highway cruising with some stop and go intervals...so the car is meeting those design parameters and probably will run cleaner after a 500 mile road trip....this car got 25 mpg in West Texas a couple of years ago...according to the Nissan Master this was the expected hwy mpg when new...hope this helps!!!
Oh Yeah....when all this started (failed emissions test and prior starter problem) the car had 164,135 miles on the odometer...bought the car at 98, 500 or so.

This car passed ANOTHER emissions test at the end of April 2016 (this year) and one in 2015 without doing anything additionally to it (other than an oil change)...understandable, the synthetic Royal Purple oil had 4,000 miles on it since the 2015 testing, i.e. it was not driven much.
