240Sx?

Ok, i know not the right forum, but how often is the timing chain on the ka24de recomended to be replaced. I'm looking at picking up a 240 sx and found one close to ft. lauderdale (if anyone's close to there and wants to go look at it for me, PM me please.

snw?

I'm looking to pick up a 240sx for my wife and I've found one and i'm working out a deal in Pompano Beach, FL (which to my understanding is close to Ft. Lauderdale). If there's anyone around that area that wouldn't mind going and checking out this car for me please e-mail me or call my cell, 501-860-0275. It's at a dealer ship called "Century Motors of Southern Florida" if anyone has heard anything good (or bad about them) please let me know. There will be a free dinner involved if you go look at it for me, and the car checks out and I come down there to get it. =-).

Thanks Z- Community

I rebuilt my bro's KA24DE w/ 180k miles.... I went through hell trying to find a good timing chain kit for a decent price ($150 - $800). Damn NAPA had the cheapest one, and it was only for the Altima KA24DE, not the 240sx (big difference in the idler sprocket).

Long story short: Don't replace it unless the guides / tensioners are broke! And even then, just replace those parts.

PS... how many miles does the car / motor have?

Ok i'm wondering if it's something i need to see if it's been replaced or not when buying it (like the z32 you wanna know if the t-belt has been done) so it basically doesn't need to be replaced unless it's broke? i'm assuming I won't know if the tensioners are broke unless i tear into it (something i can't exactly do on the lot)

Brandon. chain will rattle loudly upon start up. There is or was a tsb on the guides on the eraly 240sx's. New timing chain kits from nissan have the newer style guides. One of the guides are deleted on the newer tsb.

Indeed... Nissan advised to remove the top horizontal chain guide (sits between the cam gears).

What year is it? There should be a sticker on the radiator support if it's R134a.

it's a 1997. i know the z 32's went to r134 in 94... so i would assume nissan had the 134 in a 97 240...
