Battery Installed in Reverse

Battery Installed in Reverse
Hi All,
I did something very stupid today!! I installed the battery on my 1986 300zx in the reverse. Positve terminal to negative post and negative terminal to Positive post.
Only touched neg to post for merely two seconds, and I could hear sizzling and then smoke.
Came from bottom of box attached to fender on the passenger side of car, between battery and front shock tower.
Immediately, removed battery and took things apart as best I could at that box, and pulled out the snap in connector that is labeled "battery" to see if there was any melting or burning, but didn't see anything that would indicate same.
Obviously, something went wrong though.
What happened, and what should I be doing now?
Please help.
Cheers,
Paul 86 300zx Turbo

Check the WELCOME PM that was sent to you when you signed up (upper right side of screen, just below your username). That PM has links to the FSM (Factory Service Manual).
Your ECU is located at the passenger kick panel (plastic panel).
Replace burnt links, then see if car will start. If not, check for spark at all cylinders, and check to see if the fuel pump is kicking on. If you conclude the ECU to be bad, you can open it up and repair the damaged resistors if you are a solder wizard, or I will buy it from you to soften the pain.
See how to (280ZX Turbo ECU, but similarly applied to Z31): https://www.zdriver.com/forums/280zx...l-issue-41021/

Thanks Nismo,
I will head over to our local graveyard to try and find what I need. If not, I've done some soldering before,so will give that a try.
Thanks for your help. If I need more I will post again.

Well did everything I needed to do,after a brain fart got the better of me,and I installed the battery in reverse order.
Got VERY LUCKY this time. Split the ECU open, and NO BURNT RESISTORS!!!
Replaced the cooked fusible link, put the battery back in......properly this time...LOL!!!
Fired up right away, no issues.......I will count my blessings on this one, this time.
Thank you VERY MUCH Nismo, for your help on this.
Now I'm gonna go drive it like I stole it.......LOL!!!

Hi,
Don't how to start a new thread,so am going to use this one.
I have a headlight issue. Driver side headlight is not working. Fog lamps on both sides work, and passenger headlight works.......just not drivers light.
Checked fuse, was good, but replaced it anyway. Still no headlight.
Remove working headlight on passenger side and moved it to drivers side and no light.
So, my question is. Is there a relay for the drivers side headlight somewhere that I'm not checking,or aware of?
Thanks,
