'87 Z31 Throttle Valve Switch Changeout

This has various names; am using the FSM..had noticed idling and starting issues over several months. Finally three days ago the car would not rev above 1000 rpm without dying out, as when injectors are flooding. After 30 minutes (or overnight) it would finally start up and be drivable...(for a while). The manual has various diagnostic procedures, used the empirical method - wiggle wires and connections while the engine is running. The MAFS was eliminated as a cause since the engine would rev above 2500 RPM; when the connection to the TVS was wiggled immediate changes occurred..closer examination revealed the plastic casing was cracked, a tap with a mallet and it fell apart. By this time the car was idling and running very poorly, stopped the engine, disconnected the battery, removed the TVS, reconnected and started the engine...no effect at all, it ran the same. This was proof enough to warrant a trip to the parts store yesterday, ordered, and it came in this morning. Installed the new TVS, car fired right up and idles / revs smoothly again. O'Reilly's price was $75.99 + tax, made in Italy by BWD. Two 7mm screws hold it to the throttle body, an easy fix, though the harness could use an upgrade...a tow and shop rates would probably have been another $300.00 to $400.00

attached is a small clip of what my Z is doing. It's an 1986, base, non turbo automatic. As you see in the clip, when I hit about 1900-2000 RPMs i get a studder, and if i keep going on the gas, it floods, (i can smell the fuel ) when i go to start again, I have to wait a few minutes. Is this what you were experiencing?

Certainly does seem to be what I perceived.....in my opinion, the electronics on the Z31 is even more so than a Z32, so would really scrutinize the Factory Service Manual diagnostics for this car....don't have a digi dash or auto trans...so maybe my case is less complex that what you have here.
