Trying to get the block totally bare..

Taking the heads off. Taking the crank girdle down and the crank..

I have one question tho... WHY IN THE SEVEN HELLS IS THE FRIGGIN EGR VALVE $170 TO REPLACE?!?!!?

ZOMG! Pictures to follow, I'm starting to think now I need to source a diffrent EGR valve to retro-fit on the car or just delete it. I mean jesus...

Side note, I did find out today that the fuel rails from Mitsubishi 3000GT fuel rails with 11mm top mount injectors are an exact fit for the VG30 motor... COOL!

Pics as promised...

So here are the last pics of the motor teardown before it goes to the machine shop. I did run into a snag and had to get mid-evil on the crankshaft timing gear. It is NOT as hard to remove as some people claim it is. Mine was frozen on there pretty well... I used some engine cleaner (spray), a rubber mallet (to beat on it to get the fluid down the shaft and keyway), a flathead screwdriver, and a good old fashioned gear puller.

Well, since this part of the project is waiting on the machine shop (the full gasket set is here, waiting on rebuild...) I need to make sure I don't need oversize rings/bearings... as soon as the machine shop lets me know, I'll order those and then we can start the rebuild.

SOOO While that is going down I will be going thru the wiring harness wire by wire on the workbench and replacing things as necessary...

Also ordered a full replacement kit of polyurethane bushings for the entire car. I am also making new hardlines for the fuel, clutch system, and the brakes. Nothing wild just bending new tubing so I don't have to worry about 28 year old tubing. Already replaced the rubber lines at fuel tank side, waiting on filler neck gasket to continue there. However I will be forced to take another break the 10th thru the 13th as I have to go jump. (Paratrooper, U.S. Army)

So keep tuned for fun updates and of course more pictures. The welding on the frame and interior should be starting tomorrow.

Wiring

OK, so after inspecting the wiring loom. What a chore that is... I find no faults in my harness. I am now debating on how to control the engine. I see that Microtech has a standalone that can control the motor. However, NisTune has a more economical ECU (add on board) that converts our ecu to a tuneable system. Has anyone had experience with the NisTune board?

I need to know if the board will control 3 diffrent engines.

VG30 (N/A)
VG33ET (Turbo)
VG33E (N/A)

I think from reading NisTune's website that I can indeed hot swap the tune maps for each engine (I.E. just change my map for the motor as they go into the car). I find that planning ahead just makes life easier. Since I plan on running the VG30 motor until I can properly build my VG33 Turbo to swap into the car, I don't want to have to "upgrade" my ECU tuner.

on a positive note, the machine shop called and let me know the block is peachy keen and I can use standard size bearing and piston rings (YAY no block damage!!!) So I will be ordering those today, along with a new oil pump (cuz I'm ocd like that...).

I am still dealing with the brakes on the car as well... UGH, such a simple nightmare hahaha. I think I will start sniffing around for z32 parts for the brakes since I have to make new brake lines anyway. Pics to follow soon on the welding!!

I will be gone AGAIN the 22nd thru 28th to EAA Venture Oshkosh show, presenting there for composites technologies. Lots of cool new stuff on the horizon, besides, this beasty I'm building requires cash, gotta go make it!

Rebuild stuffs

The parts table is filling up... Total gasket set, new water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, wheel studs, etc. etc...

Just waiting on my motor to be done at the machine shop so I can pick it up and paint it. Then start re-assembly!

Soooo fighting with a machine shop..

So my original quote was roughly $250.00 now it has somehow spiraled out of control and the price has tripled... uhmm.. So we are trying to work it out but basically the owner of the shop understands his machinist did extra work i did not request and the motor did not need. SOOOO... We should come to an arrangement by tomorrow but needless to say I was a hot **** when I heard that news...

So that is the update on why this stalled, and it will be back moving along shortly! Pics to follow after I un-break my phone!

More update.

OK,
worked out a deal with the machine shop, who was holding my motor hostage for cash... that is being settled now and I am currently looking all over the place for wheel spacers so I can mount my wheels... Also trying to find a gas filler neck tube. (why the previous owner did not seem to include that with the car is beyond me...)

Also,
Quick and shameless plug for my car!
