Spontaneous short of Radio fuse- 87 oem radio
I parked my car at the lot today and when I came back the radio and clock were out. Checked the fuse and it was popped. I put another in and pop!
It has been quite hot..perhaps a wire or tape came loose?? The original radio is still in the car: could a transistor or capacitor etc have given it up to the heat and blow the circuit? But the short must be a wire because as soon as I put the fuse in it blows..nothing turns on and then off.
Quite strange! It really happened out of thin air.
I guess I should pull the radio out and see if it blows that will eliminate one possible source. Of course check connections...I'll probably blow through a pack of fuses.
Any ideas?

I have an 84 NA 2+2 Auto and for my radio with the powered antenae, there is a fuse in the radio which is accessible from the back of the radio, next to the large multipin connector that goes into the radio. I do not know about the 87, but you could check yours. Just a hunch.

Mine also has that. When I got the car radio was all out..seems the tape player would pop that fuse..That fuse would only knock out the radio not the clock..and what I found out today..also the timed wiper action.
I am going to pull the radio and see if any wires unwrapped. The original owner had a CD player installed and I am certain the tapped into the power line. Perhaps that connection came loose and shorted.
Truth is, I dislike pulling the radio although I have done it countless times in all my cars..but I have learned to put a towel on the shift console so the plastic does not get scratched by the radio assembly.
Could be time to actually upgrade my radio..I have been holding off on that by keeping it original.
Truly, I have no excitement thinking of upgrading the audio as I did years ago. There's NOTHING on the radio to listen to and big deal if I hook io my phone by bluetooth..
We shall see what the problem is..and I did not realize I really count on that little clock!

So I plug in a new fuse and now it works....
The only thing I can figure is that I found the mirror defroster on..maybe something shorted there..I really don't know how to answer this mystery and I hope I never have to..
If all problems went away as simply as this...what a life it would be!
