Replacement Fuel Level Sending Unit

Replacement Fuel Level Sending Unit
Hi, has anyone tried the replacement fuel level sending unit from Nissan? No matter how I configure it, the needle bounces all over the place. I can see now why the old one has the cylinder around the float.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

Yes. Fuel level sending gadget is a frequent problem with the Z31s. In my original '86na, two or three times I cleaned the wires that the floaters rode up and down but that only postponed the problem and my fixes didn't last that long. Maybe a year.
Finally bought an aftermarket replacement that I didn't adjust correctly so it always read about 4 gallons too low. For replacements, I think either aftermarket or OEM where available would be OK but you have to adjust them by installing the gadget, getting a reading and then moving the reader/sender gauge either up or down as required. You want Betty to tell you that fuel level is low without driving you crazy.
Anyway, a bouncing needle is a hint that the sending unit isn't working right or you have a bad/dirty harness circuit between sender and gauge. Check all that out before you replace the sender. Again.

what did your replacement look like. The replacement that works has floats that work arms to send the signal. the old style Iron bar with carbon tracks inside an aluminum can are no good. where did you get the "replacement"?

that link goes to ebay often a source of junk. try courtesy nissan for a REAL nissan part not ebay factory replacement part which means someone made it in a factory and then said it is a genuine replacement
Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com
I think you bought a faulty or at least non standard replacement. get a refund
There is nothing TO CONFIGURE with a real part.
