Thinking OEM, it could be that only the key in the ignition will defeat the steering wheel lock and the orig factory alarm system... They're worth checking out first.
The remote starter guys might know how to get around all that. It's a good idea - so report back with what you find out, OK? Thanks!

Yes it's possible (anything is possible...).
Easier installed in an auto than manual, because of the clutch pedal sensor and you can't remote start a 5speed while in gear... unless you want your car to go through the back wall of your garage.

That would depend on the installation process for the one you buy... in a nut shell you just tap into the accessory and start ignition wires. As ZXGuy has already stated, you may have to work around the factory alarm system as well.
