New Z31 Owner
Hello everyone, figured I'd be introducing myself.
I just recently picked up a '84 Z31 (NA unfortunately). Body is in decent condition, 2 minor dents, some cancer around the a-pillar but nothing too major. I personally believe the cars been in the hands of many people, and would assume the motor is not original (160k on the car). But hey, it runs and I'm happy about it.
When we took it home, it would not engage in any gear. Threw some tranny fluid in (was apparently dry down there) and we can now shift into reverse and drive (and they work!).We didn't drive more than 5 feet, but hey, it gave us some hope. Right now the engine will turn over, but not right away. It will also idle fine and drive like crap (almost like the MAF is dirty). I did pull the plugs and they were caked on with carbon, so I assume it's been running a little rich with the previous owner(s).
I'm no stranger to cars, I also own a 07 Mazdaspeed3 that I forged the motor and is now running meth on a GTX3076r pushing over 500hp and 440ft-tq at 28psi (my daily driver actually). But that's fail wheel drive!
I picked the Nissan up for a good price and wanted to replace my current beater with it (in the long run).
Few pictures to go along with whats above. I plan to do a basic tuneup this weekend, including:
Tranny flush
Coolant flush
Oil change
Plugs (wires look fairly new). From what I've read, most people use NGK BCPR6ES-11 with a gap between .039 and .044 (IIRC).
PCV's
Fuel filter
Drain gas tank (probably 1-3 year old gas in there)
Distributor cap & rotor
The Z31
Z and the Mazda
Mazda
Mazda's turbo, next to the stock one.

Welcome to ZDriver!
Good lookin' Z! Sounds like you are headed in the right direction with your work so far.
Pick up a freebie factory service manual (FSM) and a lot of other cool docs at XenonZ31 Reference They can help you sort the problems out and solve them one at a time. Inspection and troubleshooting pages are easy to follow.
Welcome again and thanks!
