My car tried to kill me Today
So I get on the interstate towards the end of the morning rush hour, get into the third lane, accelerate to 70 mph, and my hood FLIES open and hits my windshield.
I managed the maneuver myself across 2 lanes of traffic with one inch of visibility under my hood and pull over to the shoulder. Not going to lie, I was terrified!
After calling AAA, I looked over the damage... Not a single scratch, dent, or crack on my windshield or the rest of the car(I must be really lucky!) only my hood, hinges, and hood latches were broken.
Has this happened to anyone else here? It was freaking terrifying!
Spent all day looking and already got a replacement hood in the same color.

My manager has a had it happen on his s10 once, or maybe it was his k1500, not sure. You should get some hood straps, they look sick, and even if you're not dragging, they can really help safety. That, and they are cheaper than new latches.

Lucky
You are very lucky you didn't get killed, did it not latch last time you closed it ?
The trick is to drop it about a foot up, it closes perfect, I have had mechanics not be able to figure it out, and its so simple. Bad luck or gremlins you survived, so pretty fair driving skills too, with limited visibility, cheers for saving your own life !!

This has happened to me and a buddy of mine (2cars). On the z31, it dosnt take a lot to get the hood misaligned. Even a slight wreak can do it. I always put a safety chain under the hood since it happened. Cause it SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!! Has your car ever been wreaked that u know of?

What can happen is the handle\cable to pop the hood can get stretched and does not automatically slide back into the original position after it is pulled. Therefore, when you close the hood, it is not fully secured by the lock. The workaround is to push the handle forward after you pop the hood ensuring the hook properly grabs on preventing what happened to you to occur.
