Looking to purchase first Z31.

Greetings all,

New member here from So. Cal. Coming from a background of '80s F-Bodies and C4 Corvettes I'm definately stepping into a new world here... I'm finally looking at getting my first Japanese car and have decided the Zenki Z31 is what I want!

I found this '84 AE on Craigslist and was wondering what people here thought about the price.

1984 Nissan 300zx

Any common issues that I should look for when shopping for these cars?

Any input is appreciated!

Welcome to ZDriver!

Sounds kinda pricey to me - but it's worth what you are willing to pay, as they say. I'd pay less. Prices are typically lower in the west than in the east. Craig's lets you compare around the country. Note owner specifically omits mileage which means it's high. Rust is a big issue with Z31s ('84-'89) so you want to inspect inside floors and under in person.

I think there are special posts on this site with all the points to check on Z31s before buying so maybe Nismo or someone can point the post out to you.

Sounds like you are buying mainly for style - and the car has that in spades. It's all the other stuff that make it roadworthy or not. The car's maintenance history is a very big deal, if available. Get a CARFAX right away for a start.

Don't go only for the glamour. Z31s can be mechanical miracles if you get a good one. Good luck!

Also check out the inspection list at https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-...pection-16386/

Most of those items can apply to the Z31s too.

Thanks for the welcome!

I was also thinking the price was high for that car, but I didn't know how often the AE cars pop up and what they sell for. Also no smog test record pops up on it indicating that it might be a car brought in from out of state... Luckily time is on my side and I can wait as long as I need to for the right one.

Mainly looking to get into a nice driver quality Turbo Z31 at the moment. Something that is far from a beater, but won't be afraid to park outside either. Knowing myself it wouldn't be long until the urges to "improve" on the car arise. That's how I ended up with an LS3 in my daily driver C4 Corvette and 403 rwhp in my '83 Trans Am.

Thanks for the response!
