Looking at a 300z
What are things to look for when buying a 1986 300z? Are there certain things to look for? To watch out for? Quirks to be aware of? My son is looking at one with 156,000 kilometers in it. No rust, looks good...

Rust is the bane of these cars, particularly along the rail sections underneath the car. Look for corrosion inside the passenger side front fender directly under the battery. The battery should have tray underneath it with a drain that funnels any boiled over acid past sheet metal. If the tray is missing or damaged, damage to the fender and rail on that side of the car is likely. If you buy the car, you will likely need to replace every fluid and many things made of rubber, including the timing belt on the engine.
