Wheel spin / wheel hop / Pathetic launching
Had my turbo out last two days. I put 125 miles on it so far. I did have a tiny bit of fun and the same nasty problem. 3500 rpm launch. 215 60 R14 tires. Tires break the rear end bangs around to the left. Now I'm running Tokio adj struts and msa bars. This will kill me off the line and leaves me with correction when I should already have my line picked and focused on my shifts. I ve been a machinist and cnc programmer for 12 years. I'm. Starting to think I need posi so out comes one of my spare rearends to start playing with. Didn't see any prior posts. And a lot of you do go to the track. Is it my tech or do I need to change something with the car.

If you've got a posi get it in there. There's also the obvious - tires... IMHO the Tokico springs are a great upgrade but still not stiff enough...
Also did you swap out your u-joint setup for a turbo CV setup?

I'm running a turbo r200. So were good there. I agree the Tokico is still a little sloppy. The T top has. The G2 struts and let's say railroad tracks knock the teeth out of your skull as I hate how the t top rides on rough roads it does launch a lot better. But at this point I have no point on dialing up the boost when I cant get a good hook up. Now @ 2500 the car needs a min to recover before takeing off. And I mean a good second or two. Going down the hermits see what he got. He has rims with 235s mounted for the s130. They don't need the back spaceing. However they look like the gold trans am honey comb rims and are just ugly. Stupid question I haven't googled yet did they make a Posi. I really think that's the issue got one tire launching the car? If not I can machine whatever.

So much for the easy break in period eh?
So what? There's nothing special about the "turbo R200". Still an open diff.
The 87-89 Z31T has an R200 CLSD. That's the cheapest / easiest solution. Or you can go with a cheap OBX and have it last a few years for $500 + install. A Nismo LSD for $1k + install, or a Quaife for $2k.

No dam luck. Out of his stock plye there is only 1 300zx its an 84 Non turbo and he can't recall what rear end came with it. He does have a nismo still in the box from the scca and bob sharp days. He wants 1800.00 and says the gearing is more suited to the track vs everyday driveing. But he is a crazy old hermit and so needs to be on horders

Lol by NO means am I complaining. Just a childhood dream. Like to get close to perfect as I can. Just can't belive I over looked the rear end. Eh mostly for the stop light bruisers anyway. Hmm now the only reason I fell for my Zs was the fact a teeny lil rusty car from tokyo. Gave corvette , mustang , camero the bird and out classed them in performance and handleing for way less money. The Z earned my respect to me its a sportscar and I hold it to a high degree of standard.

Whew down off the soap box! ! I just wanna take out the new "Butchered in Detroit" V8s. The mustang I had a few run ins. The new 2012 model packs a punch but that's the V8 gt model. The lightly modded N/A if launched perfectly will run a 2010ish V6 stang. However the Big brothers I haven't had a chance to play with. The Camero or Challenger.

Either way we had a down payment for a new bayliner ski boat. Or spend it on the z. Im happy with my choice now I know what it will take to launch the dam thing straight thanks

Well my Hermit gave me a lashing of a life time!! Since he Ran in the 70s with Bob sharp and Datsun Scca raceing he has my respect. I do challenge him with the S130 since his masterly is the s30 modles. In his own words " Your an Idiot" why? "The z was built for track raceing, Mr K knew the Z would not compeat with full on NHRA drag raceing in america" Huh " The rear end was designed for Body roll and Hard cornering at high speed. It cannot take a full launch load on the rear axle". Well why is there pics of Z drag cars? "Those are not Datsuns they are Tube chassies with a solid Rear axle and leaf springs". But I wanna " Stop you want a drag car Buy a chevelle, Or your going to keep Ripping the rear end apart." Our conversation. So I'm. Giveing up on the issue
#14
But he did slip his toung on How the Drag style stock cars have heavy rear ends. " Nova, chevelle, Cutlass, AMX " They all had "fat asses" meaning there is some weight over the rear axle. The z has an equal weight for track. What If I put 250 lbs of sand bags back there? Hmm a Idea

"High speed" in 1970 is a lot slower than "high speed" today... If you are driving a pure stock 240z or 280zx with still showroom floor quality suspension, it will still act like it was designed to act. If you give it more hp and leave the worn out suspension, and corner at 100mph, you'll end up in the sand.

I have cut down Mercedes springs in mine at stock ride height. With springs that solid the car has zero wheel hop. It doesn't squat all but 1/2" or so opposed to the original ground scrape of the stock springs. It also turns way better. Very neutral if I keep my foot out of it.

"Hella-firm"... I never could find specs online.
Just did another quick search and found the Maxima guys talking about my 300D spring discovery. Apparently the old Maximas use the same springs as the 280zx:

that guy sounds like he assumes WAY too much. sure, there are quite a few tube chassis S30s out there, but there are also a LOT of stock chassis cars running 9s as well.
i.e.
also, I don't think that even CUT 300D springs can be stiffer than my current 550lb/in springs, and definitely not the 800lb/in I will soon be running haha

Lol that pic just shows that's not a s130 rear end. With a independant rear suspension that move well ain't happening if it did it should throw the weight to the weaker strut and have a nice meal with the wall. I'm not going for wheelies here just a straight on launch. Current launches are well bang bang bang LEFT and I have to correct my line. We have a local drag park here so I wanna run the tree with out comeing out of the hole loose or side ways

He has said if I want a true z dragster to go with a ford 9 in. Reinforce the rear crossmembers and floor to front frame have the axle tubes modded to fit the wheelbase and may as well run a 302 or 350. A blown engine in the pic well Id like to see it in person. He has broken cv halfshafts and ring gears on some 350 swaps. Told me just to pratice my launching to run with what I got. Its a scca track/trap car not a Nhra car lol I will look into the spring rates and see what's going on. I have krb G2 struts in the t top that feel a lil stiffer.
#23
lol that shows how much suspension tuning you've done.
and OP, you're an idiot and assume way too much, and reading your posts hurt my head.
if your car pulls to the left when you launch, then something is WRONG with the car.
#24
True that Just really got to look under that car! If it can be done well congrats. I'm putting that issue on hold till we sell My wifes car. Then going with the nismo LSD. Struts well I'm going to dig into this a little more. Thanks for the link. The pull is mearly wheel spin wider sticky tires the LSD and struts should do the trick. Noticed mearly pulling out on a hill tires start breaking free. Grabbing second also rips on the tires. 99% of the time I'm very gentle on the car per break in. 625 miles thus far gotta love a new Perfomance clutch in rush hour traffic

all i know about the mercedes springs are that they are stiff enough to feel the jarr, but soft enough to move when needed. i had to cut off 4 coils when i did the install, i started with 2 and tried it. when i did 4 i didnt have to compress them to install the top plate. when i first only cut 2 coils off the back was uber high and the tires were positive camber big time!! \ / it was just bad. i got my springs from bleach, i wanted to do coils but wanted to match or slightly exceed the mercedes springs, i feel that the fronts are too soft now, but to get the balance the rear would have to stiffen up.
