speed """""' check it out

hey do you want to know how fast your Z is if you have a Nextel phone goto main menu open Java applications then open Tele Nav go to GPS tools hit compass then mark it will read the gps and tell you where you are located then it will read the latitude and longtitude then it will tell you the speed you are traveling in between the degrees I was able to check my speed on my 1983 Z turbo at 115 miles I didnt want to go any faster. I discovered this while I was driving my bicycle and trying to read my GPS I was traveling at 5 miles on my bike.

our cars have speedometer in them, they may only go upto 80, but depending on what gear you in and what your RPM is you should be able to calculate your speed, like for my z32, 4'th at 5k RPM= 100MPH

Not mine, both my '81 and '82 have the 130mph speedos on them. And when I am hitting 4k in my '82, it is just about 105-110 or so.

If you want to accurately gauge speed then find a cop sitting on the side of the road and fly by him flat out as fast as the car will go. Proceed to pull over and ask him what he clocked you at

Other then having your speed detected there really isnt an accurate way to measure speed (not to the mph any way). Speedo's or tach calculations become inaccurate as tires expand, deform, and slip (and speedos just aren't accurate at higher speeds anyways, even if there were no other factors). Not to mention if you go fast enough you'll start to alter the space/time continuem and end up in a parallel universe where they measure speed some other way...like in kph

considering there are more kilometers in a given distance then there are miles I'd go with kph being more accurate.

There's two reasons why you weren't going 160mph:

#1... your 280zx turbo doesn't have enough power to overcome the wind resistance @ 160mph.

#2... at 5600rpm in 5th gear the 280zx turbo is actually going about 145-150mph (T5 tranny, 3.545 diff). Simple math per this webpage: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/

Hey, that is cool. My speedo doesnt work and i have been driving by my tach, using the corresponding rpm for each speed for 4th and 5th. Seems like the rpm's i have been using have been right in line with this graph. That is good to know. But i swapped wreckedj30 my analog speedo from my parts car for his digital speedo. I will soon have it in and wont have to live by the tach any more. SOOOOO SWEEEEET!!!

must be the mods that keep you from shutting down at 134, like z-whizz told me would happen with stock z31 turbo. i only got mine up to 99 on I-5 n to sacto a while back--kitten now 14 weeks--was 6 weeks when i road tripped him.--7 weeks ago.
