T5 swap

I'm new to these cars. I have a T5 out of a mustang sitting in my garage. Is it possable to put a bell housing from a T5 out of a turbo on to it and then put it in a 79 NA 2+2? thanks for the help

and if not what would it take to make the T5 from a turbo fit? just bolt it on? i just figured since i have this one here and the tranny in the car now wont go into reverse this was the best option

I personally haven't heard of anyone using the mustang T5... but if the bell housing mounts up & the input splines are the same... it should work.

A lot of people (including myself) have swapped the n/a tranny to a T5. Just requires the T5 driveshaft & diff coupler. Simple to do. There are a lot of threads on here that talk about the swap too, so feel free to use the search button. And welcome to ZDriver.

Things that need to match up:
1) Input spline count
2) Input shaft diameter
3) Input shaft length
4) Bolt pattern for Bell housing to tranny mouting

You'll need a custom driveshaft as well. Like Nismo said, the NA and turbo shafts are not the same.

I think I recall someone on here saying the T5 out of a late model V6 Mutang would fit up. But I cant remember for sure.

the T5 came out with two different splined input shafts, one regular, one fined. if i remember correctly, we have the fined one.

i think im just going to hit up the junkyard for a turbo T5. i really want the T5 instead of rebuilding the one i have in it because then i can get a short throw sifter as well.

also the T5 was in all manual tranny mustangs since 84-98 then they went to the tremmic 3550 with the 99-04 body and that link you posted is not a T5 its a TKO. my motor is not making 600ft.lbs. lol

Check the gearing on the Mustang T5. They were different depending on what year and your 280ZX will be a pig if you get a T5 with a tall 1st gear.

Also, you'll need a custom drive-shaft.
