LS1 Swap...
Ok guys. I'm curious of the difficulty of an LS1 swap. Has anyone ever swapped one in before? It is a 350 (obviously) but are the motor mounts the same as the ones on the first, second, or third generation blocks? How complex would the swap be to put that in? Lookin foward to some answers so I can finish my plans for my future drag 280zx. Thanks. L8erZ. Pete

There are tons of LSX swapped Z's and other imports (FC, FD, 510, 240SX, etc) for that matter so finding information shouldn't be that hard, I do know however that the mounts aren't the same for older motors but, from what I understand the overall swap is pretty straight forward if you start out with the right tools, and of course good quality parts. I can't speak for myself because Im still L28E powered but, since funds are short I do plan on a LT1/T56 swap in the future. Goodluck with everything and keep us all updated.

Ok thanks. See I'm developing plans for my future race cars. It'll take awhile to build them both but it'll be worth it. I'm going to build a 280zx with the LS1 swapped in and use it for drags. I'm also going to build a 280zx with a highly built L28ET for stock car racing, and another one the same way for street car road races and events. Like I said it'll take awhile to build all of these but planning it now will give me something to look forward and build up to. Plus pay from the Marine Corps will help me out too. I'm only in the DEP but when I go active I'll save a lot of money.

The white 280zx in my avatar is my first candidate for the turbo swap and it'll be my street car. It'll be alot of work because of all the rust though. I want this bad boy to be close to show car quality.

SBC = Small Block Chevy. Which the tired 350 is based off of. The LS1 is a complete departure from that engine in everything with the exception that it remained 5.7 liters. Check out JTR. Last I checked they didn't have mounts for the LS1 into a 280zx, only the earlier S30 models. But that may have changed since I last checked them out. But if not then I'm sure adapting the S30/LS1 mounts to the S130 chassis shouldn't be too difficult. The JTR kits aren't a simple bolt in though like the MSA kits. But the MSA kits also aren't designed for the LS1.
But it's my opinion that the extra effort needed to get the LS1 in as opposed to the SBC would be well worth it. The LS1 weighs less than the L28 and is capable of big power. Hell it comes stock with pretty big power
