Fuel pressure checked and within limits, shop put a new fuel pump in.

Is your firing order right? Double, triple check. Almost sounds like timing is way off, maybe you switched up your wires somewhere.

^ x2. Sounds like timing is off or spark plug wires out of proper order.

i didnt put the wires on car but i will double check it, if its not that then could the timing between the crank and cam be off by a tooth or two and cause this same symptoms? Again the timing we assumed the shop had done correctly

Could be... I did work on Jaromgi's 280zxt this last summer. Ever since he bought it, it didn't run right. Turns out the cam gear was one tooth off, and the distributor / oil pump shaft also a tooth off. Ran like crap, and got REALLY hot during light driving (glowing turbocharger and 3/4 to maxed out temp gauge). Fixed both problems, runs like a champ and stays cool.

You never mentioned this... and if a shop had worked on it and not fixed it, that's even more reason to CHECK EVERYTHING.
