1982 280zx turbo auto to manual swap

Hi new to the forum,
Me and my dad are currently working on our 1982 datsun 280zx turbo and the time has come to swap out trannys. My dad had planned on doing this long ago so in preparation he bought a brand new borg warner t5 from nissan in 1984 he also got a peddel box and clutch master cylinder. My question is what exactly has to be doen for this swap i know something has to be done for the drive shaft and the diff? I have been searching around and cannot find clear instructions on what needs to be done, so if someone can please tell me what has to be done for the swap it would be much appreciated.

You need the BW T5 drive shaft and matching diff flange. And unless you want to do a bit of custom wiring, you will also need the body (chassis) side of the transmission harness.

You don't need a new diff, just the output drive shaft as the T5 output is a diff spline count than the Nissan 5sp.

From a 280ZX Turbo.

Remember... the 2seater and 2+2 drive shafts are different lengths too.

aye aye aye...

Nissan ONLY used Borg Warner T5 transmissions for the manual 280zxt. Unless someone removed the T5 and swapped in the n/a trans, all manual 280zxt's have the T5.

To reiterate, there are TWO factory transmission options for the 280zxt:
-3speed Auto
-BW T5 Manual

You need an entire parts car for the drive shaft?

I suggest checking our classifieds first (there just happens to be several 280zxt part outs):

Turbo automatic trans spline count

Question, is the spline count on the ZX-Turbo automatic trans the same as the 5/speed spline count ? I just swappped out a 1979 ZX automatic trans for a 1982 automatic trans, and the spline count on the new automatic trans does not fit the original drive shaft. Does anyone know about this ? Thank you.

So the Nissan auto drive shaft has the same spline count as the Borg Warner T5? I've never heard of that...
