Bi-Polar brakes...

Just picked up an '83, and the PO mentioned brake issues. Whats happening is that the pedal will randomly sink to the floor with MINIMAL pressure randomly. 1/3 pumps it will do this. Them, once i reset the pedal by letting my foot off and re applying, all is fine. Brakes work perfect untill the next two pumps or so. Fluid res is full, though the fluid is a bit dark. No obvious leaks, I am not losing fluid. I'm thinking it might be the master cyl, but what do you guys think?

Bleed the brakes thoroughly for a start. discolored brake fluid is not a good sign. Renew it. If still a problem replace master cylinder. Check each wheel cylinder (usually you will see a wet spot from leaking brake fluid. check the brake pads for wear. If the calipers are extremely dirty you might want to clean and relubricate them. but what you describe is master cylinder problem. easy replacement fairly cheap. here is one for under sixty bucks.
