Dod, that is a bad A$$ Z. On a side note, then mine must be a base model. I have a 80 with manual windows, manual steering, hard top, I think a analog clock, red interior, or marroon, can't really tell anymore, and from where I scratched the paint away. It's black now, but there is white paint underneath, but it is a Auto. And no passenger side mirror

I still need the drivers side rear panel with the locking cubby in it. The one behind and below the left rear window and opposite the spare tire panel. You have one!?!?!?!?!

In order to get one recovered though, you need one that is intact in the first place, which I don't. Every one I find has broken cardboard or it's just plain mangled...

I had this model, also

To answer the question of whether there was any specific model 280ZX with an all black interior: no. I will give you some ideas of where to find such an animal. If you take the '79 model year any "GL" (using Nissan's trim level code) with factory hubcaps being a big clue and certain colors such as: silver, light metallic blue, white, or red may have come with an all black interior. Typically these models would have also had manual (roll-up) windows and usually no power steering. The base model 2+2's would have in some cases had a black interior as well but without the tall backed bucket seats. For 1980 it gets a little strange because more models were being produced with the t-top option for 2 seaters (2+2's wouldn't get the t-top option until 1981) meant that the base model would see small production numbers. The color combinations also changed slightly as Nissan wanted to keep each year a little bit different. For instance you might see a white 280ZX with hubcaps and roll up windows but it might have had an all red interior.

Then we come to 1981 and this is where my strangely equipped 280ZX comes into play. In '81 in the factory brochure there is a picture of a gray 280ZX with the beveled side molding and hubcaps. In my case my car was equipped with an all black interior with roll up windows. There was no power steering and no rear window wiper. The car also did not have the ten function check between the speedo and tach. It also had the older analog style radio and just like the old S30 Z cars, only the driver side outside mirror. I have only seen this weirdness replicated in the same gray color and I am not aware of any other color offered with those delete options in other colors.

Enclosed are a few pics:

I know this is an old thread, but I once had this model and color scheme. I wish I had it today, as I would like to replicate the color on another ZX, and add a couple of options. The only downside was the lack of a passenger side mirror, and cruise control. I could live without the power window, doorlocks, and power steering I really liked the style of the wide black body side mouldings, blacked out License plate panel, and blacked out window mouldings.

In 1979, I traded a gas hog 76 Chevy Silverado step side on a brand new 280 ZXR. We pushed it out of the show room.
There were 1001 280 ZXR's made in 1979, across the US. One per dealer, I was told.
The manufacturers back then had to produce a factory car in order to race on certain circuits.
It wasn't any thing special, performance wise. No options other than AC. The whale tail was only offered on the ZXR. The dealership told me the R was for race. Also most dealers put them in storage and wrapped them in plastic.
I ran my ZXR like I told it. I ran the crap out of it. It would run faster in 4th gear rather than 5th. 4th would let her breath. I mastered a 180 on bare pavement, that used to impress my buddies, but scare the $#!+ out of the baby dolls.
When I got rid of it..... It had 210,000 miles on it. Ran like a champ. I used Havoline 30 since new. I payed 14,000 and some change for it which was a lot of money at the time.
Absolutely beautiful automobile back in the day.
I actually went to the Ford dealership first. After walking around a few Mustangs and looking at the fit and finish.... I ran.
Thought you guys might want a little wisdom from an old man.
Have a good one and be safe.
