my 280Z project

hello All
Feel free to give advice and pointers to this project, i welcome them. But please be forewarned. This project is for my wife. I promised the next one would be for her.
I was originally wanting 500 plus HP... buuuuutttt.. reality set in. 400Hp is jusssst fine. depends on what deals are available during the machine work for the motor.

what i have so far.040 over4 blt main splayed bolt block
crank TBD
pistons .040 Dome top w valve/plug grooved pistons (pita to line up the plugs properly)

Heads
64cc aluminums
2.02 intake
1.60 Exhaust
190cc runners
5 angle valve job
1.56 true roller rockers

have not chosen carb yet
have not chosen crank and flywheel yet.

Fuel cell is in debate at this time.
all will be balanced so ican get a bit higher winding SBC 350.
i love the sounds of these motors after 5500rpm.
sooo here's the progress so far. she's been sitting in the yard for a year now waiting for me to finish all these other freaking projects so far...

she looked pretty good when i got her diddnt run
but a steal for 600 bucks, all she really needed was injector wiring, but i used this as an excuse to build a nice street machine.

Do not let the wet paint lie, it was a poor paint job. Blue metal flake over stock GREEN with thin coats looks terrible in sunlight, plus she has small blisters and debris in the paint everywhere.
i found much more damage after tear down under every door seal, the carpet and of course the spare tire area.
day1 spare tire cutout in preparation for fuel cell cut out

then the finisher, i initially cut out the ring so i could more comfortably work the spot welds.

of course removed the interior soudn deadening matieral, this was the hardest around the pedal area, THAT CRAP IS THICK AND BUBBBLY! We are talking 20 minutes soak with dry ice, I have still a butt ton of wire wheeling to do. Thank god for a face shield.

the windshield was completely intact when i purchased it. It some how miracously cracked shortly after after a hard winter. BUMMER!
so i removed it poorly and managed to screw up the chrome trim also, i had to surface condition the entire surface, areas of rubber had become stuck to the paint.
hard to see in the pictures but well worth the effort for future paint.

i bumped into this surprise, a deep solid THUD unintentionally while checking a small spot for a patch weld. I was not pleased but the area was very well bondoed primered and smoothed. I was uauite impressed, nothing a ball peen hammer cant fix!

I know how you feel. I'm going through the same problems with my car. It looks like you're getting there, keep it up!

I think my biggest struggle will be the suspension.
I dont want the bone stock suspension, not with the added weight of the motor and the nice rim and tire combo i have picked out BUT i dont want to spend more then I am on the engine for some freaking shocks and springs. I am not converting the hubs either, the stock brake set up with stock booster will be sufficent enough to stop the car, this wont be a track or touring machine, but a nice well built daily driver/ cruiser. occasionally making trips down the track.

if you don't upgrade the suspension or the axles you will have issues , the stock axles cant handle the power I am dealing with this issue now so I am upgrading the whole thing you don't want them to come apart it is bad the stock axles will exit the car with the wheels
