Re: I found a 1971 240Z
if no rust and engine is in good condition
i would consider but negotiate it a little bit
like if it would only need a paint job it wouldnt b bad
point out stuff wrong with it and subtract it from the price
keep it realZ

Re: I found a 1971 240Z
original owner eh? well i guess i would ask how many miles are on it, under 100k then i would be thinking around 4k.
theres a 240 but its automatic in the autotrader and it has 85k original miles advertised very very nice condition, and he started at 5k and is down to 3.5k, just to give u an idea...being automatic id say its worth 500 - 1k less than stick.

Repair costs would depend on repairs req'd. What are the miles? If the rubber on the car has not been replaced then you will need to do that, carb rebuild. There are many things that could be wrong, and could be expensive to fix. A good paint job is a couple grand. Rebuilt motor about $2500, so that will significantly reduce the price. Fully restored ones can be had for less that 10 grand so you decide what does the car need.

Re: I found a 1971 240Z
hello i too own a 71 240z..ive rebuild the engine.last year with help from people on several z car web sites and books based on the z...this was the first time ive done this extensive a repair to a car..so i took my time and read ALOT...ive found the 240z to be one of the easiest of cars to work on, once you get to know your car you will know what it needs and when...as for the 240z you express an interest in, i would do a compression test to see the condition of the engine..my 240z required a rebuild after over 200.000 miles (yes alot of miles before it needed it) they are good strong engines and if cared for will last forever...your compression: 180psi=exellent 150 and up exceptable anything lower and your looking to a rebuild soon...good luck michele

Re: I found a 1971 240Z
Michele brings up some good points. For me the shape of the body is the most important. Wow its pretty rare nowadays that you find original owners for 240Z's? I'm curious why is he selling the z?
As far as replacement some of these things as people mentioned above, are things like brakes, tires suspensions shcoks springs.
One thing you want to check, problems I hate the most about any cars are wiring problems. Good idea to check the fuse box make sure nothing is melted or have corrosion.
If the car is in great shape you might sortav have a collector Z car in away. I really don't like Z cars that are perfect OEM shape and everything original. Becuase then I feel bad if I modify the car if its perfect. But check out www.zhome.com they have a lot of good info on a collector z car.
Also my quesiton is where is this car located? You can probably find someone with more experience with Z's to come and check the car out with you. But it sounds like a good find from what you mentioned.
Just remeber one thing about old cars once you fix something, something always breaks!
