De-Californication

In NE indiana, there are no emissions requirements (heavy farm lobby etc). However, my 1976 280z is california compliant.

Does anyone have recommendations about what is best to remove / route around to get rid of the california factory emissions? I dont want to remove all the emissions devices, just convert this to standard emissions.

At worst, I'm planning to replace the header and exhaust this fall, and I want a 3-2 header without the exhaust fittings that lead to the EGR (?).

I believe the CA model has extra smog pump lines from the crankcase to air filter box. The FSM contains Fed emissions diagrams... just compare to your setup.

As for the header, yep, it won't have the EGR tube. So just leave the EGR actuator installed but disconnected, or fab up a blockoff plate.

rock... I will compare the FSM to my setup.... initial glance is just to remove the EGR. My brother has a small CNC and can likely make me a plate (winter project). I will dig a bit further and see what I else I can find.

Any good / bad reviews of the MSA header / exhaust setups?

I'm leaning toward this exhaust:

Motorsport! Aluminized Performance Exhaust (For 3-2 Headers), 70-78 240Z-260Z-280Z - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts

and this header:

Motorsport! MSA 3-2 TBC Coated Header, No Smog Fittings, 70-76 240Z-260Z-280Z - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts

I'm a bit less than impressed with MSA's service and products, seems like they repackage and mark up a lot of things than can be found elsewhere on the internet for much cheaper.

That is true of most any "One stop shop" business. You pay for the convenience. They offer a lot of unique parts that only they supply, but yes many items can be easily found for less elsewhere if you shop around.

As for reviews, a lot of people have discussed the MSA headers.
Here's one:
3 into 2 MSA header

I put the MSA 6-1 header on my 74. It seems pretty rev-happy now and pulls nicely, even above 5,000 RPM.
