Body Work Question!

Alright, having having stripped my Z down to basically a shell on a rolling box I have found all the rust that can be seen without cutting into things. And from what I can see just about all of it can be easily blasted off and repainted or just very minimal bodywork.

So my question is, Would you still take it to be dipped and make sure ALL the rust everywhere is dead.

Or Just have it bead blasted?

I know the cost of having it dipped (and give or take the drive there and back) But Ive never actually had anything bead blasted before. I also want to make sure it never rusts again so long as I can help it.

How fast do you want to spend? How complete do you want the resto? Bead blasting won't get under the crapily sealed seams. Dip and seal properly, or live with the fact that "some" rust isn't worth getting to.

Hmm... True enough honestly. Guess If I'm going to do this right I can't be cutting corners.

Are you planning to dip the whole unibody? So once it`s completely dip what are you going to do about the the nooks and crannies where primer/paint is hard to spray?? Unless you dip also in primer/ paint.

Well I was actually going to basically dump in mixed primer and turn the car over on a rotisserie a several times lol then use a inspection camera to look inside to make sure it at least got coated. After that I was going to take a few pages from Nissan's book now and wax/foam fill several parts of the body as well.

You can also run POR15 in the seams as well....

True, but I was thinking more of the body parts where its not easy to get into, like the frame rails and the front bodywork under the fenders. I forget what its called....Strut tower support?

I used Ospho where I could if I seen rust, since it can be sprayed with a wand and hit alot of hard to reach places. After a few days I used Eastwood's Internal frame coating in the frame rails, rockers and any crevice I couldn't fit a brush to use POR15.

OOOoooohhh Great idea. Or isht. Powder coat the whole car. Kia does it.

Also heard of people dumping sealer in boxed frame rails (like ours) then spraying expandable foam into the rail to move the sealer through and also cut down noise. Weird but in theory sounds good.

You can thin POR15 with their recommended thinner and then you can spray it.

Expandable foam has lots of air, which will in turn hold moisture and then you'll have rusty areas wherever that foam is at.
