Barn Find Advice
Hello
This is my first post and would welcome any advice. All of the 240Z's I've seen here in Canada are rusty. I have the opportunity of purchasing a 1973 240Z from its original owner who last drove it in 1981. It was stored indoors and has only 55,000 miles on it and he wants $3500 Canadian for it.
Being a Canadian driven 240Z it needs both frame rails and the floors replaced. It also has rust holes over the rear wheel wells.
The engine is not seized.
The dash has no cracks and it has a small tear on the driver side seat. It has the original radio and the original wheel covers that have rust on them.
I was thinking of buying it as a project to work on and have the floor and frame rails welded by a professional.
What would the expense of the repairs compare to the purchase of a less rusty 240Z

Hello and welcome. Unfortunately, either people don't know how to judge the pricing, and are way overshooting, or we are truly screwed up here for pricing. A car in that shape would be worth no more than 500 bucks in reality, but there we go. It really sucks. Your best bet would be to try to outsource from our neighbors to the south and bring one up. Welding and body work are not cheap by a long shot, plus importing panels, I can see it easily running you $10k just to get the body back to 100%, probably not even with a paintjob (unless you take up welding and have tools/skills to do it yourself).
I mean..****...here is a local to me add..just insane.
1971 Datsun 240z | classic cars | Saskatoon | Kijiji
Good luck.

It's the Datsun Tax... same thing for S13's... beat up, somewhat running, used to be ~$500-$1000... now that everyone knows S13's are popular drift cars, the price has shot up to $3000 for something barely road worthy.
I bought my clean 240Z for $500... because I have patience.
