1972 240z Brake Booster Replacement Sealant

Hey yall!

Quick question: I was replacing my brake booster on my 1972 240z the other day. While removing the old one, I found that there was some sort of sealant/glue-type substance in between the firewall and booster (pictured). Does anyone know what this is? Should I get some more to put in between the firewall and the new booster before I install the new one?

I do not recall a sealant on my 73 when I replaced the booster. You might want something to help seal against the firewall to keep vapors from the engine compartment from getting into the cabin. RTV would be adequate for that.
