Voltage Regulator Problem
Hello fellow Z owners!
I am new to the forum and excited to own my first Z car, but I am having a problem with my 72 240z voltage regulator.
Two weeks after taking apart the engine and putting the engine bay back in order I am having weird problems. My cars alternator went out as well as my battery going bad so I replaced them, but I am having a weird battery drain. I went to get my electrical system tested at a local auto part store and was told that all was good besides my voltage regulator. (I noticed something was up because after starting the car the amp gauge would go up when I rev, but after about 10 to 15 seconds my amp gauge would stay just above center, around 5 to 10 amps I would say) This got me worried because it seems to being putting out more amps (15 or 20) when I am stopped at a light and not moving! WEIRD Then when my revs are higher it just sits back at 5 to 10 amps.
After I put in the new one I purchased same thing happened. I returned that one for a replacement and still happened.
So I'm thinking it might have to do with wiring but it worked before with no problem.
Has anyone had a similar problem or might know what is causing this? Or is it normal for the amps to stay and not go up when I am revving my engine?
Thanks again,
Shane
