Verdict on intake / exhaust heat shields?

I just installed the MSA ceramic coated header and have cleaned up my intake manifold.

During this process, I had the heat shields blasted and have painted them with VHT hi temp from a rattle can.

Theoretically, the ceramic coated header dissipates 40% less heat into the engine compartment, So are these heat shields still required?

best to keep

it's best to keep the heat shields, you could try running without them, see how hot your intake gets, would be nice to have an heat probe to look for hot spots

Dig it... they are just a pain in the *** to put on, and hide some of the shiny bits.

Here's the latest in this arena...

Prep of the gasket surface...

Somewhat of a close up, you can see the new PCV hose (the old one was pretty seriously constricted with gunky oil. You can also see at the thermostat housing an open cooling line that I need to plug. This was the coolant line that led to the AAR mount on the manifold. the mate to this one is on the other side of the block and ties in to the lower rad hose. In the back is the clamped off fuel return line and you can see the top of the fuel filter / supply lines.

The valve cover back on, and looking aft down the whole shiny bit. I'm waiting on a tool to tap a hole so I can get the intake mounted.

I'm about a week away from starting it again. I have to figure out where the FPR is going to go on the firewall, and the exact mount for the supply and return lines.
