240z distributor timing/install.

hey everyone.. need a little help on retiming the distributor to the engine..im also installing pertronix ignition at same time.

according to the chiltons manual it says to turn the crank to line up with the arrow on the block, and have the number 1 cylinder up all the way to the head.

i got the pertronix coil and electric ignition for the distributor, bought new distributor cap, and wires, plugs, electric fan conversion (flexalite 12 inch)

in the manual it says to use a timing light, ive never done this or used one of these..

i have pulled the distrubutor outve the shaft/block and cleaned it up, also removed the points ignition and ready to reinstall the electric, but it is now not timed and ive heard when u want to install pertronix,, the timing changes anyways..

id love to time this engine perfectly, but i could really use some word of advice on this as im somewhat lost with this..

heres were it gets complicated..

the engine has been turned over since the removal of the distributor,.. also i just got the carbs back from ztherapy.. but they forgot to ship me my linkage and balance tube.. wasnt impressed how they took along time,.. then forget to give me everything back..

anyways...

ive now realized that im probly about to have one hell of a time getting everything to work correctly since both things are way outve tune...

should i just set the crank and distributor 5 degrees in advance?

ive been searching how to do this and ive been getting alot of mixed answers..

last i heard, i should get the 1st cylinder top dead center, mark it, then drop distributor in and have it line up with number 1 ?
