ya, weird that the shifter seems further forward.
Good job keeping up with the progress though! How is the weather?

I'm back in sunny Seattle

Looks like the engine is not sitting far enough back in the bay. Don't suppose you swapped the engine mounts around?

As far as the DS if its from a 75/76 then the rear diff uses a 2.25" flange with 10mm bolts, and the others had a 2.50" flange with 8mm bolts.

I found out the hard way when I had to get my DS shortened for my setup.

skittle, The mounts can't be swapped around without SEVERE tilt in the engine. so that isn't possible. I know they had a wierd flange but I found one more extra DS laying around that was perfect. since then the car lit on fire lol... but.....

UPDATE FOR EVERYONE: I just got an entire body harness shipped to me, also found a 280ZX turbo for 300 dollars in kansas city, picking that up as well. will part it what I don't use and the S30 should be getting electrical power back into it. Hopefully I can bring it back to life.

http://www.sdrev.com/forums/showthre...172#post324172

Not really doing anything fancy like you. wish i knew how to do all that waste-gate thing and good stuff haha. just keeping it simple. if its cool with u mind if i ask for some help or opinion if u reach a slump? we seem like were almost in the exact part of the swap. wiring things up.

well, low and behold, got new wiring in it, and I noticed it trying to start... but it just wouldnt, then I looked down and thought, now why the hell didn't I plumb the intercooler system yet. so I did

and then the next thought clicked in my head, HOLY CRAP that's probably why it wasn't runing, becuase of the stupid AFM setup. and here it is...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIegVyUcUY8

BAM! listen to that turbo spool back down, can't hear it on the video as well spooling up. Take that randy and it's timed lol. just need to tidy up the wiring toss in the electric fan put fluids in it and get the interior together and it's ready to drive! also I think the FPR isn't holding pressure after shutdown.

Awesome snow! It sounds pretty sweet! I am looking forward to the day, I have my own Turbo Z. It is going to be longer than I planned. All aside, glad you went back and tackled it, after that disasterous fire. Will keep checking on here for more progress. Keep up the good work bro'.

When were you planning on going to Texas? And I still do want your 240z. How about swinging by my side of the desert on your way? heh heh

I just didn't plumb the intercooler setup so it never started. I figured it would have started and idled without the AFM being hooked up to the turbo then to the intake manifold. but nope! and that was really the only issue. Now however the turbo is apart and awaiting a rebuild kit to show up because it was burning oil.

The F54/P90 combination was available in N/A form. That is currently what I have in my car, and have found out that it came from an '81 or '82 280ZX, from the research I have done. I have also ran upwards of 14 PSIG so far on it, both non intercooled and intercooled with no issues. I didn't run it at 14PSIG non-intercooled for long, since I saw the intake temps soar to 180 degrees F a couple times. I ran 12 PSIG non-intercooled for a few years until I decided I had enough time to build my IC. lol I am running a Delco ECM on it though, so I have plenty of control over fuel and spark.

The Automatic cars have a smaller shifter hole in them than the manual cars.

Automatic hole:

Manual hole (cut out automatic hole actually):

I had no problems using my automatic driveshaft with my manual tranny after the swap. There may be a king spline that needs to be lined up. I don't recall for sure though, since it has been a while since I had my driveshaft out.

I would add a support brace from the flange of the wastegate to the exhaust manifold. You have a fair amount of weight hanging off that tube, and with the heat could cause it to deform (bend), that could also cause leaks from cracking.

thanks. I figured on the shifter hole, mines was cut open more months back. there was def a difference in some of my auto driveshafts but then I found one that worked so whatever i guess. I'm going to be running 8psi for now, then I think slowly build a megasquirt setup for next summer. I'll definitely look into a small brace, it's all getting TIG welded up now because I didn't like the looks of the welds on my wastegate setup I decided, and since it was all apart for the turbo to get a rebuild I figured why not. hopefully that's all back together this weekend and I can get the dash in, bleed the brakes and clutch, get all the lighting and gauges working and maybe I can actually take if for a spin around the block lol.

just pistons, oem rods. got the crank in. finishing up the block tomorrow. probably have it running again this weekend possibly.

oh and When the head was off the old block, the ring gaps were like.030 so that was a big problem. got a different block, had the machine shop mic the bores and hone, new pistons and rings. all should be dandy this time. gap is tight! right in spec. .013

Sears hardware smart *** n don't act like youve never seen it before. It's to monster what's going through the lines. And custom made catch can with sight tubes. Works well. Still cost me 60 bucks in fittings hose n sheet metal. N Yah spent a little. But it'll be nice. Hopefully it fixes the crap missfire under boost too.
