I have an 1978 280Z, L28 and I would like to swap engines with an engine that will fit directly in the engine mounts. I was looking for options available to me. I was told that I 300ZX engine would bolt right in.

Any advise on swapping engines would be appreciated.

No direct bolt in engines unless its another L series Nissan engine. You can take the turnoff engine out of an 81-83 280zx though if you can handle a little wiring and have a good power gain.

If you can read a wiring diagram and can solder in tight spaces you should be fine.

and don't take any advice from the moron that said you could drop a VG30 into your car with no modification. You can swap in a maf and ecu from a z31 and get improved performance for your L6. Best bet find a turbo car for cheap and take that engine and wiring harness. alternately the 82-83 n/a engines are probably the best of the series.

I'm actually in the middle of this engine swap and in need of help. I purchased a 1976 280z with a 1983 280zx, not wired https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-260z-280z-motor-swaps-non-v8-269/transplant-zx-z-32516/. It has the 1976 harness with the 1983 efi harness. I managed to run power to the ecu and other components. The car turns and all but doesnt want to give in all the way. I'm pretty sure its because it's not getting power on ALL the components that is needed for the engine to fire. If anyone can please advise or point me to a direction where I can find source on this swap, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
