Hi... bought four NISSAN aftermarket rims and have restored them, but now need the correct lug nuts for them... contacted NISSAN and an "expert" wheel outfit and both asked for more information.... this morning they got the numbers off the back of these rims... they have NISSAN and 40300 stamped on the front of them... on the back is the code HT7U and the numbers circled 81 and 7.... also there is a 7A........ Can anybody identify what these rims may be, generation, who sold them, or better yet, a website that interprets code numbers like this? Thanks

What wheels are you currently using?
Where the lug would seat on the wheel, is it flat or rounded (concave)?
Is it thicker than the stock wheel?

There are pretty much just two lug nut options:
-Flat base
-Round base

I was just informed from the "Wheel Talk" people that the numbers I found were not OEM numbers.... so this is still baffling... The gold rims and the primered rims are the same... we tried a gold snowflake on the car out of curiosity more than anything else. Mags were on but are not correct for this car and causes a lot of grief.... wheel well rub to be exact... They were held on by 12mm 1.25 one inch long shanks with washers.... The snowflake rims that we tried (primer) have a half inch shank depth and I had some 12mm 1.25 quarter in short mag lug nuts that we used to hold the snowflakes on.... And I am not sure, but the short mag lugnuts fit snug inside the mags.... these same lugnuts do NOT fit snug inside the snowflake rims... there is quite a but of room between the shank and the inside of the rim lugnut opening... if that makes sense....

So, I was thinking on this problem a bit and is there a wider diameter shank?

Any help... suggestions are appreciated.... PS... Wheel Talk wants a couple pictures of the back of one rim and that is next on the agenda....

Those are stock 15" snowflakes from the 1981 280ZX Turbo, so you'd use the 280ZX lugs:

Cheapest place would be your local junk yard. Second cheapest, ebay, then your local parts store, then Nissan (maybe not in that order )

Hey!!! Thanks... perfect answer and I found it yesterday as well when I kept doing my research....

And the guy out in CA who was an "expert" helped me the most with his reply, other than this post which is ten times better. He told me what they had to be, and then gave me the link to his order form.... He want $100 for 16 lugnuts for my car.... I then went to Ebay and there they were.... One thing I do need to do, is to go out and do some measuring just to satisfy my curiosity that these are correct....

What I find truly amazing is that the parts man from NISSAN here locally had no clue as to what the rims were... and refused to help unless he got a stock number....

I will do some measuring to confirm all this and then go to Ebay and order a set later today...

So... I should/could order the centers from NISSAN for these rims too? or is there an aftermarket source for those too? I don't necessarily want/need stock centers, so I will research how they fit/attach to the rims and see what I can find... If you know of some alternatives, please let me know... and thanks again....

All 280ZX Turbos 81-83 used the same center cap...

Thanks for your help.... I did look on Amazon and Ebay and found out how rare these rims are/were and found a couple sets for sale for four times what I paid for mine... ya gotta get lucky once in awhile.....

I am really tired tonight but remember reading somewhere from someone, that the wheel center caps for these were 55 mm.... or did I dream that up somewhere?

I did find universal plastic ones in England.... and then after a little research I found some plastic 55 mm one from Thailand etc.... good enough for now while I look around for something better or add decals...

Please confirm the 55 mm number if you can and thanks again....

Painted the rims today when I got home from work.... three coats of Rustoleum hammered gold.... found out that the paint color doesn't exactly match the cap, but I can live with them.....

I found it amazing, that I could not find a stock set of rims for this car... I found several individual steel wheels, but never pulled the trigger on buying them individually, and paying shipping costs, etc... I always thought that I would stumble across a car with all four and never did.. it was a shocker that someone had these four, and I didn't pay all that much for them.... They too some time to clean up, but then came out looking fine... I added some high speed tires from a Mercedes, and found the correct lug nuts (standard and nothing special) and finally, the centers.... after market, from Thailand of all places... and cheap!!! Guessed a bit at them, and guessed right... small victories.... and alas, I sold the car last week.... and lost money on the deal... such is life.... and I may take some time off now.... older than dirt... Thanks for everyone's help though.... but I am now officially done with 240's...... and will be trying to find my passion, a Chevy.....
