77' 280z rusted roof & floor board. Help!
ok, im new to this forum & to forums in general, but ive seen my friend & brother get alot of useful info off these kinda things so im trying it. i just bought a 77' 280z from houston & brought it come on corpus christi. tx, for 1500. its beautiful for the yr & in good condition for the price, but i wanna make it immaculate. it has alot of rust around the front/top window seal, around the hatch at some spots, & the passanger floor board is rusted through. i was wondering if theres a way to fix all that & what itd cost me. ive heard u could weld sheet metal to it to patch it, but i was wondering how difficult itd be. i was thinking of buying floor pans & welding them in too. should i do it myself or let someone else do it? if i do it myself, where do i begin cutting? what if i wanna change the support & frame rails too? where do i start? bondo is only a temporary fix, right?

Sounds like you need to do a more thorugh inspection fo hidden rust. Bondo is not for rust repair. If you don't have the skill and tools you can buy and learn, I did. Show us some pics so we can advise.

Lol thanx. Yea its clean for the most part, but has parts here & there that r rusted up pretty bad. I really wanna take care of those spots as soon as possible before it covers the whole car

It's been rusting for a long time so get it rolling first. Start buying your tools now. Get hammers and dollies first but don't buy the cheap ones because the faces are soft iron. Go on ebay and buy books on metal bumping and body work/ tools. You will need a wire feed welder to do patch work and a oxy/acet torch for metal shrinking.
Not a good idea to try and cut out the roof unless you have a donor car to cut out. If it's not to bad you can fill in some spots with silicon bronze rod. Sounds scarey at first I know. My '77 was rusty and beat up and after a year of spare time I got this.

Bad Dog Racing makes replacement floors & frame rails much stronger than OEM. I'm looking at doing the same to my '78. It's immaculate outside & interior wise, but the floors were patched by an idiot, and the frame rails are starting to rust through as well...arg! My SR swap is on hold until I do this...

John is a straight shooter. If after talking to you he thinks that his parts
ARE the best for your application and intended use, you have your man.
But he will ALSO tell you if his part ISN'T the best for your intended use, and
will refer you to another source in Toronto whose name I have somewhere.
